what is foundation?

Foundation is the basic ruleset architecture of 204.

game board

At the start of the game, players must agree which game board they will be using - represented by a map. Game boards are module-specific.

gameplay

Each game round, every player takes a single action on the game board.

Actions are performed in "I Go, You Go" (IGOUGO) turns, where players interact with the features of a Location. This could include selling items, buying perks, or travelling to a new location. Play continues until a player successfully completes their Hero Quest, at which point they win the game!

heroes and companions

Your Hero is your primary player character and your representation within the game. Each Hero comprises:

  • A Race and a Class
  • 4 Inventory slots
  • 3 Perk slots

Companions are additional followers that your Hero can recruit. Each Companion comprises:

  • A Race and a Class
  • 1 Perk slot

Companions share the Inventory slots of their Hero.

race and class

Your character's Race defines their species, culture, and core identity within the game world.

Your character's Class represents their profession, background, and the unique skills they've learned. The Class you choose will directly affect the abilities available to your character.

Both Races and Classes are specific to each game module. This means the available options may change depending on the adventure you're playing.

inventory and perks

Inventory slots are used to store your characters' Weapons. They can be freely swapped in and out.

Perks slots comprise passive effects that are ever-present. They are unable to be swapped in and out, unless specified by another effect.
